Bush wrote the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce endorsing Fender, of which he was awarded a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and he appeared in the 1987 motion picture "The Milagro Beanfield War." He dropped out of high school and joined the Marines at 16, but too often landed in the brig and was discharged. On 13 March 2001 Freddy Fender was erroneously reported to be dead by Billboard Magazine.
