Day 2:We drop down into Piute Meadow, passing Piute Lake, to our camp at Gem Lake. Destination is a nice peaceful pond. This trail was gorgeous! Probably the most crowded we have seen it. Typical for the Sierras which means excellent overall. Crabtree is paved and 4N47 is two-lane graveled and superior BY FAR to the 4N34.

We backpacked to Chewing Gum with our two dogs on Saturday, Aug. 20 and stayed Saturday and Sunday nights, doing a day hike to Y Meadow Lake on Sunday.
Our feet were really happy to arrive back at the Crabtree trailhead parking lot for sure.

On Wednesday, Im driving south for some Thanksgiving camping at Castaic Lake and to backpack a short section of the PCT that Id skipped last year due to the Tick Fire.
The majority of elevation change was in the beginning, and honestly not too difficult.
Lots of parking at the trailhead - about 30 cars there when I parked and still plenty of spots to be had.
California's Emigrant Wilderness is bordered by Yosemite National Park on the south, the Toiyabe National Forest and the Hoover Wilderness on the east, and Highway 108 over Sonora Pass on the north.
The trail is sandy but for the most part, the sand is shallow enough that you won't be twisting your knees.

Was pretty crowded but we didnt mind. We brought snowshoes along but didnt need them.

Known for its temperate summer weather, the Sierra Nevada can also experience sudden, unexpected rains, hail, snow, heat, and cold. Lots of camp sites if we were backpacking also, Good beginner trail, lots of water sources, easy to follow, With T, nice loop!
Two layover days will allow us to rest up, swim, and fish.
